Leaving Tyr in search of the Face of Stone the party eventually found themselves at it’s entrance. Recognizing two obelisk at the caves opening as unactivated traps, the party convinced Spitfire to venture in alone at first. The traps were activated and the goliath was confronted by three Hejkin who demanded to know why he was there. Before the conversation could escalate though, Spitfire tricked the Hejkin allowing the rest of the party to gain entrance as well.
When the lead Hejkin sent a subordinate back through the caves behind him Rumpus called for an attack. Ratana struck quickly, but only provoked the remaining Hejkin to take off running. The traps still in place, the party was stuck with time to inspect their temporary prison. Besides the four obelisk that held them there their were a large set of doors that were presumably lead to the Crown of Dust. On the doors an image of a giant snake and winged lizard in battle was depicted.
Growing impatient with the traps that held them, Samir finally burned down the obelisks. The cave system that would allow them to follow the Hejkin was to narrow however, to the point that Spitfire settled for guarding the main entrance. Traveling deeper into the caves the party eventually came upon a the large chamber where the Hejkin lived. Ratana manipulated the mind the Hejkin chief causing him to believe that his guards had hurt themselves with the traps. After apologizing to the party the chief offered the use of the tribes “great power” if the group could recover three ankheg eggs for the tribe.
Obliging the chiefs request the party then went to the ankeg lair where they killed off a hive of wild ankheg and collected the eggs. Returning to the tribe, Ratana once again dove into the chief’s mind and convinced him that he had promised them a guide in the Face of Stone. The chief relinquished the “Great Power”, which turned out to be a key, and a guide to lead them. Returning to the doors they used the key and entered the tomb. Spitfire was missing though, but the party knowing him to handle his own pressed on.
The first obstacle the group encountered inside was a sealed chamber. A bone construct sat upon a throne at one end and a small whirling dust devil sat opposite it. Careful not to touch anything the party sat contemplating their next move when Aluiries decide to stick her arm in the dust devil. It clung to her, sucking out her life force until she finally freed herself. In turn the door that had been sealed opened just enough for the group to pass.
The party traveled down another long corridor till they arrived at yet another set of doors. These doors were different though. They depicted the same snake and winged lizard, except in this image the lizard had slain the snake. At the base of the doors was an arcane based three tiered lock that when activated started a trap that pulsed fire and brought to life corpses. Samir and Ratana busied themselves with the lock. While Rumpus, Aluires and Oscar held off the skeletons.
After disarming the trap, the party finally found the room where the Crown of Dust was kept. The gold crown was only a third of the whole crown and glowed a faint purple light. Samir took it and placed it around his neck as a pendant. In so doing he was presented with visions of the great snake and a faint voice in his mind that spoke to him.
“I am free at last. For centuries I have lied dormant in this prison. Defeated and cast out by the great dragons of Athas. Made whole I can provide the power you need to defeat them.”
The object they sought finally secure, the group decided to leave the Face of Stone without rest. Making their way back through the tomb though they came across a band of elves dressed in the garbs of Yarnath’s bandits. The party bested the bandits quickly and pressed on to the main entrance to discover that the giant dust devil surround the Face of Stone had dissipated. On the horizon they saw rolling citadel that had just dispatched three sand skiffs in their direction.
Not twenty yards from the entrance however, were two more unmanned sand skiffs and their friend Spitfire waiting at the wheel.
